Frequently Asked Questions

Does this unit need a power supply to work?

These controllers are USB hub-powered and do not take an external power supply.

Do I need to install drivers for this to work on my PC/MAC?

No, these controllers areclass-compliant meaning that they are plug-and-play and do not require a specific driver download in order to function. The V series controllers will function on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 as well as all Mac operating systems that are 10.4.11 and above. Also, because they are class-compliant, they will continue to function as Windows and Apple come out with later updates and operating systems.

What are the programmable buttons for?

Use these buttons to send MIDI CC messages to your software. They can function as momentary or toggle (latching) buttons. You can also use the V Editor software to set each button to send program and change messages to your software. See the V Editor's User Guide to learn how to do this.

Does this have pre-programmed sounds?

These controllers do not. They are midi controllers and are meant to trigger software in your computer that has sounds built into them such as Ableton, Logic ect...

What kind of sustain pedals does this use?

The V Series has a connection for a 1/4"" TS sustain pedal (Momentary non-latching footswitch). It would be helpful to have one that has a polarity switch on it in case you want to customize the way the pedal reacts when being pressed down or released.

Feature

88 full-sized, semi-weighted keys with built-in speakers
Includes Skoove 3-month premium subscription for interactive online piano lessons
Standard, Split, Layer, and Lesson modes with 128 max polyphony
Free $30 value with included power adapter
System requirements windows 7-32 and 64 bit, 10.8 OS X, usb 2.0 port or higher

Description

The Alesis Recital is a full-featured digital piano with the features to make it easy to learn, teach, and perform at any level.

The 88 full-sized semi-weighted keys include adjustable sensitivity to fit your playing style, with built-in speakers and effects, so you're ready to start playing right out of the box. Recital includes a power adapter, so you can plug it into the wall and play all day, but it also can go mobile running on six of your own D cell batteries.

Where the Recital really sets itself apart is with its teaching tools. In addition to Split mode for different keyboard voices on the left and right sides, a Lesson mode separates the keyboard into two areas with the same pitch and voice. That means a student can sit next to their teacher with both playing the same notes, for a simpler learning experience.

But what about when an instructor isn't available?

Recital is compatible with Skoove, an online piano-instruction service. Skoove listens to your performance to give real-time feedback, with adjustable tempo settings to match your skill level. Better yet, Recital isn't just compatible with the standard Skoove: it also comes with a free three-month subscription to Skoove Premium to unlock all of the lessons and songs.

Finally, when you know you're a virtuoso, the Recital has a sustain pedal input, USB-MIDI connectivity, and RCA stereo output, so you can expand your keyboard's capabilities to meet your own.

The Alesis Recital is everything you need to get from fumbling in your living room to finessing up on stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many built in voices are included?

The Recital features 5 realistic voices:

  • Acoustic Piano
  • Electric Piano
  • Organ
  • Synth
  • Bass

The volume on my Alesis Recital was fine, but is now low or inconsistent. How can I fix this?

The good news is that you probably just need to perform a quick factory reset to be back up and running.

While the keyboard has a single external volume knob, there are a number of user adjustable settings that can also affect the volume. You may have accidentally lowered one of the internal volume or sensitivity settings.

To restore your Recital to the factory default settings, hold the Reverb and Chorus buttons while powering on the Recital.

The following parameters will be reset to their default values: Reverb, Chorus, Metronome Tempo, Metronome Time Signature, Metronome Volume, Upper Volume, Lower Volume, Split Volume, Split Point, MIDI Channel, Touch Sensitivity, and Auto Power Off.

Can I split my keyboard with multiple voices?

Customize the voices by combining any two at once in Layer Mode for a full, rich tone. They can also be assigned to only the left or right hands in Split Mode. You can even add adjustable Reverb and Chorus to further tailor your sound.

Does this digital keyboard include education features?

The Alesis Recital has a "Lesson Mode" feature which divides the 88 keys into two zones with the same pitch and voice. This gives the student and teacher the ability to easily watch each other and play together without having to take turns.

What type of connections are included?

In addition to the 1/4" sustain pedal and headphone inputs, the Recital features stereo RCA outputs to connect to a recorder, mixer, amplifier or other sound system, as well as a USB-MIDI output for connecting to a computer and using educational software or virtual plugins.
