The Rope
The halter is made from high quality, 1/4 inch (6mm) polyester yachting rope that is smooth, soft, durable, and responsive. Polyester rope is sweat, dirt, mildew, rot and UV resistant. It will stay truer to its original form for longer without fading, stretching, weakening or breaking.
The Difference
Cheaper halters are made from inferior rope, typically nylon or polypropylene. These ropes are sensitive to UV degradation and will become brittle and weak if left in the sun. They will stretch and lose their shape in a short space of time. Exposure to rain hardens the rope fibers, causing them to crack, which rapidly makes the rope unsafe. These cheap ropes are stiff and slippery, and knots tied in them are notorious for slipping and becoming undone. These lead ropes are made with 9/16" polyester rope and are 12 feet long. The polyester rope (see below) is made in the USA and our leads are hand spliced by Big Sky Tack & Snacks in the great state of Montana. Your purchase helps support a small growing company. Our polyester rope has a great feel to it. Not too stiff, not too soft. Each lead has an eye splice on one end to attach it directly to the halter or to a clasp of your choice (not included). The other end has an end splice with a quality leather popper. Because both ends are spliced there is no need to melt either end. We offer 39 different color and color combinations.
