This is a good alternative to those Box Store mixes which are low cost dried out packages of dusty tree bark or "wood products" of unknown origin. Orchiata is a standalone orchid growing substrate that can be used directly from the bag for potting and re-potting orchids, produced from the finest quality, 100% pure New Zealand Pinus radiata bark. New Zealand Pinus radiata is a hard and stable bark compared to other pine species; however, it needs to be processed from its raw state. Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss lasts a long time in the vivarium, and has natural anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. It is placed between the substrate and leaf litter layers in a vivarium to prevent the substrate from adhering to the frogs, and to increase the suitable environment for microfauna. Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss also makes a great substrate for temporary or quarantine tanks for dart frogs, as well as rearing bins for young froglets.
